![]() ![]() That approach was important to build something that would touch each of the 1.2 billion listings on eBay. Now we’ve enabled it through our mobile app, allowing more buyers to shop while they’re on the move.Īt eBay, we use the approach of continuous delivery and Minimum Awesome Product (MAP) to build and test the product adoption, building something nimble enough to test but enjoyable from a user experience perspective. Before this update, buyers could only accept that offer through eBay’s website. For a long time, buyers were able to send a message to sellers asking for a better price and sellers could reply back with a better offer. Part of these Seller Initiated Offer tools is offer in message, which is an expansion of how sellers can reply back to buyers. This will enable more engagement between sellers and buyers, embracing eBay’s mission of driving ecommerce through innovation. Seller Initiated Offers is a way to expand that economic opportunity and help our sellers do more and work faster. When we created Best Offer, we allowed a buyer to start negotiating on items. Seller Initiated Offers gives buyers another reason to make purchases wherever they are in their day. The eBay selling team responded to that feedback with this functionality to address the needs of our sellers. Our sellers asked for this feature through community groups, social media and other channels. We’re excited to create more engagement and opportunities for ecommerce between users. In an instant, those buyers will receive a notification of the new offer in the app or via email and can make the purchase. We plan to launch offers to buyers with an item in their cart later this year. Sending offers to watchers and offers in message have already launched. That message reaches up to the 10 most recent people who expressed an interest in the item, ensuring that the offer is always relevant. This offer will go to buyers that are watching or have that item in the cart. In a matter of seconds, the seller can send an exclusive offer with a personalized message. ![]() With Seller Initiated Offers, the seller can go into the Seller Hub (Active Listings) to the specific listing and see that people have shown interest. We’re introducing three new ways sellers can send an offer to interested buyers with Seller Initiated Offer - offers to watchers, offers to buyers who have an item in their cart, and offers in message.įor example, if a buyer adds shoes to their cart or puts them on their watch list, that’s a signal that a buyer is interested in an item. Buyers express interest in items listed on eBay in many ways, such as watching those items or adding them to cart. So I'm thinking there is no watcher notification, or if there is, then it's a less-aggressive format than when they receive offers from sellers, like maybe an email (possibly auto-sent to a folder they don't check often), rather than a noise and popup on their phones.EBay is giving sellers more tools to reach out to interested buyers so that they can sell more and move faster. But I rarely (if ever) get such an instant success from reducing a price, even when the item has lots of watchers. Also, I occasionally when I need to bump my sales I go ahead and bite the bullet, send offers to watchers for a bunch of items, and usually about a quarter of those offers get accepted same-day (sometimes in just a few minutes). I watch lots of items and I don't recall ever getting a notice of a price drop. So I just thought YIPPEE! But now I suspect whoever told me that was incorrect. I asked this question somewhere (it's been so long now I can't remember where could have just been in a Youtube comment thread for all I know) and somebody (?) said YES, watchers do get notified about non-exclusive price drops. ![]() Also I feel that if I'm at the point of accepting less for an item, then I might as well lower the price for everyone who finds the listing, not just the watchers. I figured if so, then a full revision of the price is just as effective to get the item sold as making offers to watchers, and with the benefit of keeping payment immediately required, as opposed to having the item held hostage by one watcher accepting the offer just to stop anyone else from getting it, but then taking their sweet time to pay (or never paying). At least a year ago, I wondered if watchers got any kind of notice when the seller dropped the price for the item they're watching. ![]()
